The Evolution of Education for Therapists in Seating and Mobility

Seating and Mobility is an area of OT & PT practice which has gained increased recognition and interest over the last decade. It has been hypothesized that seating and mobility is not covered in the majority of university curriculums due to its specialism, raising several questions. How do new therapists equip themselves with these skills? What type of learning experiences do they have to undergo in order to gain these skills and how effective are these methods in preparing them for this area of practice?
An online questionnaire, targeting qualified OTs and PTs, was developed and Stephanie Tanguay will summarize those findings to draw international comparisons in relation to University curriculum content and learning experiences.
Through a panel presentation and discussion, she and various panel members will look at the past, present and future in seating education. Audience participation is encouraged.
